70% civil servants ‘stuck’ at maximum pay scale
KUALA TERENGGANU: Seventy per cent of the 900,00 civil servants have not received any promotion despite having served for more than three decades, said Cuepacs president Omar Osman.
Those affected have reached their maximum salary scale.
“There is widespread dissatisfaction among the civil servants due to the lack of promotion despite serving for a long time,” he said yesterday.
Omar noted that productivity and performance of the civil servants could drop to a serious level if their commitment was not recognised.
“They are not receiving due acknowledgement although there is space for promotion to senior positions,” he said.
He added that some employees still had several more years to serve and could be promoted prior to retirement.
Omar also said Cuepacs was evaluating the quantum of allowance that should be paid to civil servants based on the present cost of living.- The Star
