One-way streets to ease traffic congestion
KUALA TERENGGANU: Several roads in the city of Kuala Terengganu will turned into one-way streets in stages from Wednesday in a move to ease traffic congestion and solve the problem of inadequate parking spaces.
Kuala Terengganu Mayor Datuk Razali Kassim said roads experiencing bottlenecks during peak hours would be turned into single traffic flow streets to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.
The decision was based on a study conducted by a traffic consultant.
He added that Jalan Air Jernih and Jalan Sultan Ismail were among the roads that would be turned into one-way streets.
Razali said the first area where the single flow traffic would be implemented would be the Tenaga Nasional junction linking to Jalan Air Jernih up to the Jalan Sultan Ismail t-junction.
He said contra traffic flow would be directed into Jalan Kemajuan which links to the exit point of Jalan Sultan Ismail.
Razali added that Jalan Batas Baru, which faces severe bottlenecks on week days, would be turned into a one way street. - The Star
