BN must stay on guard, say ex-reps

KUALA TERENGGANU: United we stand, divided we fall. That was the message delivered to state Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders by Terengganu Ex-Assemblymen Council (Mubarak) president Datuk Ahmad Sidi Ismail yesterday.

Speaking at the council's sixth general meeting in Kuala Ibai, near here, he said the two-thirds majority won by the Barisan Nasional in the 12th general election in Terengganu should not be taken for granted.

"The political scenario is forever changing, here and everywhere else in the country, and it would be a mistake to underestimate the strength of the opposition," said Ahmad.

He said Terengganu Mubarak might be small in number but it had never been short of influence among many of grassroots supporters throughout the state.

Council secretary Harun Hasan, meanwhile, said it would be easy to dismiss the political views of Mubarak members as irrelevant.
"But we were proven right in the previous general election when we predicted 24 wins and eight losses for BN in state assembly seats and seven wins and a loss in the battle for parliamentary seats.NST
